How it all began…
One day, not long ago, Rob’s 4 year old daughter Mia got a BooBoo. Like all children, Mia hates getting BooBoo’s. Unfortunately, Mia also hates having a bandage put on. Mia’s pediatrician wasn’t surprised. He told Rob, “Bandages are a big problem for us. Kids hate them and rip them off the minute they leave the office.” Rob thought, “we really need a better bandage.”
Fortunately, Rob and his partner Glen are product developers and come up with cool new products all the time.
So they looked closely at all the issues related to kids' cuts, scrapes and bruises. They eventually realized that even with all the different injuries and various treatment options, there was one constant thing that all freshly injured kids needed first and foremost. A hug.
Hug-a-BooBoo was born!
A new BooBoo on a child captures their attention and they focus not only on the discomfort of the injury, but the fact that one exists. This often even makes the application of a bandage difficult. So we set out to create a bandage that was not only visually friendly, but also had other reassuring and comforting qualities that took it beyond just a cute picture.
Every kid with a new BooBoo needs a "hug," so what better way to start than with such a reassuring message. We set out to create a visual presentation that was warm and open, ultimately crafting friendly animal characters whose welcoming arms were outstretched, ready to give comfort and reassurance.
That was great, but we also wanted it to have a physical benefit. So we also added small amounts of extra padding to the adhesive strip “arms” of the Hug-a-Booboo characters to give extra protection to the surrounding areas of the wound. This patent-pending feature, called "Peripheral Wound Area Protection" (PWAP), addresses the fact that typically, areas around a wound are often just as sensitive as the wound itself and are also very susceptible to discomfort when bumped, brushed up against, etc,. Gentle padded arms that hug, comfort and cushion the entire wound area, giving the child a sense that their whole BooBoo area is better protected.
The BEST children’s bandage ever!
